Issue: The "policies" property can be confusing with the TOSCA Topology Template value "policies".

  • Pamela Dragosh  - use "operations" instead since it really is a set of operations that are really being enforced.

Issue: How to ensure that CLAMP does not have to hard-code the meaning of properties. Specifically, success, failure, failure_timeout etc. - need to point to other actor/recipe's to be triggered/executed.

Issue: How to ensure that CLAMP does not have to hard-code where CSAR details need to be populated in the policy. Eg. Target Type

Issue: TOSCA Constraints would be nice to have something with suggested values, so the policy isn't locked into a set of values. Example is "actors" - ONAP has a set of actors, but it would be nice to be able to extend to other internal actors companies support.

Issue: TOSCA does NOT have a way to relate properties together. For example, if the actor property is selected as APPC, then the contraints (eg possible values) for the operation property SHOULD be "restart", "reboot", "modifyConfig". How can that be specified?

Issue: Can/Should we consolidate onap.policies.Operational into a common policy type and then allow Drools and Apex (or be extendable to companies ingesting ONAP) to be derived_from that policy.

Question: Should the actor be a capability? If its a datatype, then you cannot pre-define them. A capability type would allow us to predefine actors as well as allow companies that ingest ONAP to create their own.

 

Question: How does CLAMP call CDS API for blueprint information? to be filled in

Question: If CSAR is prepopulated with datatypes and policytypes, how would one design a PNF control loop? Do we need a PNF service distributed to it to "kick off"?

 Issue: Policies and Reusable Operations Action Item Follow up - Jorge Hernandez

A nested policy approach has the following issues:

  1. Number of hierarchical layers, which must be bounded.   The CLAMP GUI driven by an open ended "recursive" schema would have to be bounded.    One could argue that after N hierarchical layers, the information would be hard to be tracked by a human operator.
  2. Associated with the number of hierarchical layers, and the most important issue is the duplication of operations, as duplicated operations would be repeated at multiple levels, and branches. 
  3. Associated with (2), there are issues of conciseness and human readability of policies. 
  4. A smaller issue relates to the storage space in the policy repository as it would likely require more space due to dups operations across levels.
  5. A smaller issue relates to come up with canonical representation of policies and operations, policies will have to be flattened out and put in a canonical representation to support static analysis on the policy repo, for example for conflict detection.

The main benefits for nested operations over a flat structure are:

  1. Clearly drive the GUI display and the user input (may be more intuitive), and
  2. if the operations are fairly simple (policies mono-operational) which is the high runner case at this time (minimum duplication).


 

  • Recommendation is to stay with the flat structure previously used vs nested. Not ideal but use description field as a way of instructing the user on what values to put in the fields.
  • Determined that we need a catalog for actors/operations and what target they work on

  1. recipe: VF Module Create
    Pamela Dragosh In the Operational Policy YAML definition can we add optional attributes for: recipe-artifact-name and recipe-artifact-version, mode (sync or async)? The intention is to find a placeholder for the CDS  artifacts (blueprint name and version) while being generic. Today we are embedding it in the payload section and enforcing that for CDS actor those keys are provided.
    1. Yes now would be the time to be able to extend it. So there is now a "operation" (formerly the "recipe" which the term doesn't make sense anymore) field for the operation. Do you suggest to make that its own datatype or simply add another field like "operation-attributes"? I understand this is how CDS wants to work, but we need a general solution in case another actor is being integrated.

      1. I am thinking that in order to be generic among all possible actors (today SO, APPC, SDNR, CDS) we could have a datatype and make fields that apply across all actors mandatory and provide hashmap fields for "operationIdentifiers" and/or "additionalParameters" for any deviations. The current vFW closeloop implementation with APPC actor is executing a DG to take the action. Looking at the APPC docs, they also need two parameters to identify a DG (module-name, rpc-name) maybe they are managing one of those internally somehow. CDS needs three: blueprint-name, blueprint-version, action-name. With regards to SO looks like the operation is really only for Policy to identify which rest call to make? Need to look at SDNR. But with the actors we have today looks like the datatype is a cleaner way to approach this.

  2. Some comments on the "Operational Policy Type" : onap.policies.controlloop.operational.Simple :

    onap.policies.controlloop.operational.Simple > timeout :   add contraint or recommendation that the timeout here should be greater than the sum of the individual "operation" timeouts.   what is the meaning of timeout=0 ?

    onap.policies.controlloop.operational.Simple > triggerOperationId : mention that the "triggerOperationId" should match one and only one of the "operations" (onap.datatype.controlloop.operation.directive) defined in the concrete policy.

    onap.policies.controlloop.operational.Simple > operations:  constraint the list should be >=1   (we don't have > 1 examples in current onap usecases)


  3. Some comments on the "Operational Policy Type" : onap.datatype.controlloop.operation.directive :

    onap.datatype.controlloop.operation.directive > timeout:  is timeout = 0 allowed, and what does it mean?    

    onap.datatype.controlloop.operation.directive > successs, failure, failure_timeout, etc .. :   shouldn't these, be defined as triggerOperationId (in onap.policies.controlloop.operational.Simple) to point to the next operation.   I think this actually forces the nesting in the actual implementation, so it will make the  "onap.policies.controlloop.operational.Simple > operations" list be of one element only, the other ones would be nested. 

    onap.datatype.controlloop.operation.directive > actor > onap.datatype.controlloop.actor > operations > onap.datatype.controlloop.operation  and onap.datatype.controlloop.operation.directive > operation - seems to be 2 ways to get to the actual actor operation data, shouldn't there be only one? 

    I am not very on clear the differences between "parameters" and "payload" in "Operational Policy Type" : onap.datatype.controlloop.operation - the payload I think should be marked as optional.


  4. In the properties names, there is a mix of camelCase, "_", and all lowercase approaches to separate words (ie. triggerOperationId, targettype, failure_timeout), since we are going through this clean up exercise, can we follow the same naming conventions?
