By joining the OpenECOMP community, you can participate by proposing features, reporting issues, creating OpenECOMP add-ons such as Portal Applications and Virtual Network Functions, or by enhancing the OpenECOMP platform itself.

Get a Linux Foundation Identity

The first step for any level of participation is to get a Linux Foundation identity, available at the Linux Foundation Portal, whose entry page is shown in Figure 1.

To find out what issues have already been reported, see Issue Reports. To request a feature or report a bug, follow the procedures described in Issue Management.

Participating as a Developer

There are different kinds of developer roles:

• Developing stand-alone Virtual Functions that integrate with the OpenECOMP environment, most notably, Virtual Network Functions. To develop such Virtual Functions, you may use your own, separate development environment; you are not constrained to using the tools with which OpenECOMP itself is developed. See Creating a Virtual Network Function (VNF).
• Developing semi-autonomous Applications that integrate with the OpenECOMP environment. Such applications generally benefit from linking to the same Common Services that are used by OpenECOMP; Otherwise, they can be developed in a separate environment. See Creating a Portal Application.
• Developing the OpenECOMP Platform itself. This requires the full OpenECOMP development environment. See the Developing OpenECOMP section for instructions on how to get set up and participate.
