Functional Testing (wenyao guan)

Wenyao presented a deck (3 slides) on VNF Function Test Automation for R2. wenyao guan please upload the deck to this agenda page.

Current Status:

  • Script manager are Python
  • Task Manager are Java
  • Communicate via REST API
  • Only vFW tested

Problem:

  • Maintenance issue

Target:

  • Unify code into Java
  • More practical VNF (VNF of VoLTE) tested
  • Refine API
  • VNF Function Test fused in ONAP R2

Discussion:

How can this be integrated in Bruce's Test Framework proposal (Dovetail) from last week?

What is functional test? Testing VNF behavior that the vendor declares in an ONAP platform to validate the VNF works properly. Lifecycle management testing is important, but is behavioral testing important? Is there value for operators in testing network functionality? What levels of testing can be highlighted. We need to highlight these: 1) VNF works within ONAP (package format testing), 2) Non functional including VNF lifecycle management works, 3) Functional testing including VNF behavior as expected.

Stage 1: Do we have a test framework?

  1. We need to get a lite version of ONAP in a cloud deployment
  2. Get a test framework
  3. Work on the specific tests (package vs non-functional vs functional)
    1. We already have the package tests. There may be some cleanup required for these for R2.

Can Wenyao lead this effort in VNF SDK?
Need a new repo for Dovetail. Chris will request this.
Chris requests everyone to provide feedback by Monday.

Beijing SDC Integration update (Chris Donley)

Chris met with VVP, SDC and VNFRQTS.

Chris shared some of the updates from the meeting:

VVP will become a subcommittee and they will not deliver code. They will focus on governance of the program in ONAP.

ICE scripts will move to VNF SDK

Need to strengthen SDN integration. We will be part of the onboarding flow. There might be two instances of VNF SDK (external and internal)

Need to ensure the APIs can support this model including meta-data. There needs to be a clean handoff between projects.

Package modeling: update VNF data models based on R1 models. SDC will need to consume this information.

May be additional work coming from SDC, such as heat to tosca translator and license manager.

VNFRQTS: focus on packaging requirements for this release. Once we have lifecycle test framework in place we can look at additional requirements. We can implement the test cases from R2 in R3

How to handle SOL004 for R2? We want to go down the SOL004 path but it needs to be consumable by SDC. For testing you need to test both sides.

What happened around the HEAT discussion. Will need to support HEAT in the short term. TOSCA is long term goal.

Need to follow up with Alex on what HPA features are supported in HEAT.

R2 planning finalizing

  • M1 next Thursday

Chris reviewed his track changes to the M1 checklist (see red font).

Chris made changes during the call:

  • Add #8 to Scope list
  • Add #5 to MVP list

Need to add the following EPICS:

  • Functional testing
  • HPA

There are some stories missing.
